CARIBBEAN-HURRICANE-Hurricane Tammy moves away from the Caribbean but effects linger.

CARIBBEAN -- The Miami-based National Hurricane Center in its 5pm bulletin said Hurricane Tammy is moving away from the Caribbean islands but has warned that swells generated by Tammy will continue to affect portions of the Lesser Antilles during the next few days.

Late Friday into Saturday, the Category one Hurricane Tammy was bearing down on the islands of the Lesser Antilles and Antigua and Barbuda were placed under Hurricane Warning.

However the system made a slight northward shift on Saturday and the island of Antigua was spared the worse.

Barbuda however received most of the heavy winds and rain, which led to fallen trees, flooded roads and damage to a communication transmission tower, but authorities are awaiting detailed reports from Barbuda to assess the extent of the impact.

During the day on Sunday, both Antigua and Barbuda were under flash flood warnings as large bands of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms associated with Tammy are currently located to the south of the storm
